Movavi Review: Honest & Not Sponsored (2026 Update)

This is an honest, not sponsored Movavi review, written by a video editing professional who has tested multiple consumer and semi-pro editing tools over the years.

Crafting videos today has become significantly easier for creators of all skill levels, thanks to modern video editing software developed with usability, performance, and speed in mind.

In 2026, video editing tools are no longer just about cutting clips—they now include AI-powered features, social-first export formats, and workflow automation.

Understandably, this shift has happened because video continues to outperform text across nearly every major digital platform.

Why?

Because most people can watch and instantly understand a message much faster when it’s delivered visually—especially on mobile-first platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Shorts.

Short-form video, vertical formats, and fast-paced edits now dominate content consumption.

Today, almost anyone can create polished videos without prior editing experience—thanks to user-friendly editors like Movavi.

We also featured Movavi in our recent list of best free stop motion software. So if you’re into stop motion animation maybe check that out as well.

The Interface Layout of Movavi Video Editor

At first glance, Movavi Video Editor features a calm, modern grey interface designed to reduce visual fatigue.

The layout is divided into three main sections:

  1. Playback / Preview Window
  2. Timeline
  3. Feature Panel on the left

This structure makes navigation intuitive, even for first-time editors.

The Playback Window

The playback window sits on the right side of the interface and allows real-time previewing while editing.

You can instantly see changes as you trim, adjust, or apply effects—making it easy to fine-tune clips until they match your vision.

Aspect ratio options include:

  • 16:9 (1920×1080)
  • 4:3
  • 1:1
  • 9:16 (vertical video)
  • Custom X:Y ratios

🔹 Vertical video support is now fully optimized for Shorts, Reels, and TikTok exports.

Features on the left-hand side

The left panel houses the creative tools you’ll use throughout your project.

These include:

  • Import
  • Filters
  • Transitions
  • Titles
  • Stickers
  • Callouts
  • Pan & Zoom
  • Stabilization
  • Chroma Key

Import

You can import your own videos, images, music, and audio files.

Movavi also includes built-in media such as background music, sound effects, sample clips, and animated intros.

🔹 The built-in media library has expanded with modern social-style elements and motion graphics.

Filters

Movavi offers a wide selection of visual filters to enhance footage.

Categories include:

  • Artistic
  • Retro
  • Noise
  • Adjustments
  • Vignettes
  • Mosaic

Filters are applied via drag-and-drop directly onto timeline clips.

Transitions

Transitions have a way of transforming a simple video into something to marvel, provided you also chose the right kind of audio files. But even without sound, a good pick in transition makes your video unique and captivating.

Movavi has a variety of transitions from which you can make your selection – these range from the fade, blur, circles, they’ve also got Geometric transitions, Warp, ripple, zoom, wipe,  and if you really feel you still need more, you can always purchase from Movavi’s effects store.

Just in case you don’t wish to go through the torture of choosing which transitions to use, there’s this genius known as the transition wizard. It’s just above the timeline – clicking it adds transitions to all your clips and really enriches them.

Mind you, all transitions you manually added before will not be lost, more will simply be added to your clips.

The results are a stunning video you won’t stop watching – mostly because you’ll still be hung up on the transitions.

The Titles

Titles allow you to add professional text overlays, intros, and captions.

Styles include:

  • Artistic
  • Intros
  • Speech bubbles
  • Basic titles
  • Custom-designed text

🔹Auto-captioning and subtitle tools significantly improve accessibility and engagement.

Stickers

The video editing tool has in store a number of colorful stickers you can use to animate your video even more. Depending on your necessity and basically what your video is all about, the stickers can be used to add liveliness to the work.

Other features present in the video editor include Callouts, Pan and Zoom, Stabilization and the Chroma Key.

Callouts: You’re able to add shapes and arrows to your video.

Pan and Zoom

Chroma Key which allows for green screening.

Stabilization Key: You can apply the stabilization key to remove camera shake from any clip you’re working on.

The Timeline

This section allows you to control the length of your clips and your creation entirely.

The timeline is divided into three major areas – the Title track which allows you to add titles to your creation, the Video track where you’re able to drag, drop and adjust videos of your choice and the Audio track where you get to place whichever audio file you’d love to hear.

Each of these gives you the flexibility to plan out your timeline as to when, where, how, and for how long each clip will appear.

Say for example, you’ve placed a video that came with its audio track but you intend to use a different audio file for your entire video, you can simply mute the audio track that was originally attached to the video in the first place.

You can also easily split clips into parts and crop out segments you don’t need.

At last a replacement for the now extinct Serif Movie Plus, but better. Would agree with this review as it is the easiest video software on the market but also powerful . The one strange thing is that files or folders are imported straight to the timeline with no bin from which to sort files but an easy fix is to put all your material into a temporary folder in order then import this.

If there was just one addition I would like to see is a printed manual from the makers.
